Music City Center Wayfinding UI Design

Design Concept

This wayfinding app is designed for visitors of Nashville's Music City Center (MCC) to more easily navigate the 1.2 million square foot space filled with 60 meeting rooms, 1,100 doors, and 22 elevators and escalators. The app features four main functions: locating the user using iBeacon technology and presenting their location on a map; navigation to specific destinations as well as the nearest bathroom, exit, etc.; an overview map of the entire building color coded by floor; and an event schedule for the current event being held there, containing information regarding the times and locations of different programs. If a user favorites an event, it will automatically be moved to the top of the list.

UI Design Choices

The colors chosen are based on the color scheme of the main carpet used throughout the building and the icons are based on the ones used by the signage in the MCC, but they are refined and simplified for viewing on a small device. Upon researching the MCC, it became apparent that many visitors are unaware that there are entrances on three different levels, so it was important to include the entrances on the main overview map in addition to the street names which further help orient the user.
